Hey everyone! So I know you’re all wondering what is MOWM (moore of what matters) all about. In this blog I will be dealing with 3 of my favorite ideas, Truth, Movies, and Literature. Yes I said Truth, Movies and Literature, and I guess you’re wondering “how will I do this?” Well that’s the fun part! I find it amazing how there is a movie that relates to practically every subject, as well as practically every movie comes from a book! i.e. The ShawShank Redemption, which is based on the book by Stephen King titled “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption” or Brother John with Sidney Poitier 1971, another excellent movie! Okay, okay so yes I did mention Truth and this is how I will tie it in…What I like about a really good movie is when it has truth in it, and if you’re not watching the movie just to be entertained you’ll know what I’m saying, for example Brother John is a very thought provoking movie that many were not ready for, being made in 1971 and Sidney Poitier’s character was a mysterious black man that passes through his hometown just in time for the funeral of his sister, while there he becomes a part of the tension and unrest that is going through the town, black workers aren’t treated well, and some of the cops in town are racist ( no surprise there) however this movie shows the power of the blackman. Some critics have said he seemed to have “supernatural abilities” and are not really sure what he is. There are others that compare the story to that of the biblical Lot and the destruction of Sodom and Gommorrah, with Sidney Poitier as an angel moving among the people of the small southern town looking for the righteous. What I see is this; the blackman is god, which means to master, whatever you master you become the god of it. The towns people were so awed by him and his accomplishments and could not understand how he was able to know and do the things he did.
