“Mathematics is the only TRUE Universal Language”

What comes to mind when you hear the words “universal language”? Well I know what came to my mind, however I was curious to see what the great “Google” had to say about it. One link said that English is the Universal language, ( excuse me while I laugh out loud) how arrogant is that? I mean really! It reads “universal language not “world” language! The base word in Universal is Universe. We don’t even have a full understanding of how vast the universe is! So to limit the universe, that is home to other planets and other life forms to a bastard language as primitive as English is insulting and arrogant to say the least! English means Last on the List, that is the last language that the CREATOR recognizes, with Arabic being the closest to ALLAH. When we watch movies like Star Wars and you see the aliens, the only reason that we hear them speaking English is because the movie is made by people from the planet Earth! lol Okay so let’s move on to today’s movie, without further ado…….

Contact…I saw this movie years ago. It was released in 1997, starring Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey. This movie is highly recommended and is not one to sleep on. And just so you know, there are spoilers ahead.

The movie starts out with a young Ellie Arroway and her dad talking on a short wave radio. She is trying to see how far she can reach through the shortwave radio, she is happy when she gets a response from someone in Pensacola Florida. As her Father,( who by the way is her sole parent, her mother died giving birth to her) tucks her in that night Ellie has completed a picture of how she thinks Pensacola looks, her dad pins it up on her wall. This starts Ellie’s interest in Astronomical research.

Now let’s fast forward to an adult Ellie, at her first post college Astronomical position, doing research work at radio telescope in Puerto Rico for S.E.T.I. ( Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence). She meets immediate resistance to her work from a leading scientist, Michael Drumlin, one of her professors at college and major jerk throughout the movie. He is extremely skeptical about the existence of extraterrestrial life ( there goes that arrogance again) He thinks her research is a waste of valuable telescope time. He proceeds to work behind her back to have her funding cut…told you he’s a jerk lol.

Ellie meets the handsome Palmer Joss, a failed priest(this means that he does not believe in organized religions, however he does know that GOD exists) who is writing a book on the impact of technology on third world people. After a night of romance Palmer and Ellie discuss their opposing worldviews, setting up the main theme of the film. Palmer shares with Ellie that he had a spiritual experience that blew his mind, it was GOD. However Ellie is the classic skeptical rationalist scientist, hence the word classic, because most scientists are that way, she tells him she does not believe in GOD or the supernatural. This gets her thinking about her dad and she rushes out of the house with memories of his death. She is nine when it happened, waiting for her dad to join her to gaze at the stars through her telescope when she hears a crash. She goes downstairs to find that her dad has fallen, she runs back upstairs to get his heart medicine and then has to run back downstairs to give it to him and unfortunately she is too late. At the funeral the family priest tries to comfort her by telling her that” we have to trust GOD, since we cannot understand his ways”.  She answers with “I should have kept his medicine in both the upstairs and the downstairs bathroom”, I see this as the start of her becoming an atheist. The conflict between reason and faith is established with religion playing the bad guy to science and intellect.

Back to the present…now Drumlin has pulled the funding from SETI believing it to be a futile endeavor. Ellie eventually gains secret backing from  billionaire industrialist S.R. Hadden, who has followed her career allows her continue her studies at the Very Large Array in Socorro County, New Mexico. Four years later, Ellie finds a signal repeating a sequence of PRIME numbers, apparently sent from the star Vega. One thing I have to say is I really applaud her dedication, this is something that started when she was a child an she never wavered from that one thought that there is a greater reality then what she sees with her two eyes. She is humble enough to not think that humans are the only ones in the universe. Then I find it interesting that the signal  from the star Vega used Prime numbers. Prime numbers are numbers that can be divided, without a remainder, only by itself and by 1. For example, 17 can be divided only by 17 and 1. The only even prime number is 2 and all other prime numbers are odd numbers. Hhmmmm now keep in mind these are intelligent beings who only recognize prime or odd numbers, 3,5,7,9,11,13 etc. These same numbers are also The New ALLAHS’ numbers! The number 1 is not considered a prime number, however it is one of ALLAHS numbers. So it makes sense that these higher beings would only recognize odd/prime numbers. Why does ALLAH only recognize odd numbers and why do these numbers represent ALLAH? Because ALLAH is independent HE does not need anything or anyone to bear witness to HIM.

This movie actually shows that there are some of us that actually THINK about things, like what is the meaning of life?, or why am I here? What is my purpose in life? Are there other life forms in the Universe? Not only did Ellie think about things, she dedicated her life to discovering the answers, regardless of the opposition.

Now that they have received confirmation that there is life outside of Earth, and the beings have given them a formula using the prime numbers, once they break the code they can build a vessel that will hold only one person, and that one person will be allowed to travel to their world/planet. Then with the assistance from the eccentric billionaire that agreed to fund her after her ex-boss made her lose her funding, the code is broken and the governments of the world decide to collaborate and build the device.  This also means it is time to decide who is going to be that one person to go. Now I know you’re thinking like me, of course Ellie should go. No questions asked. However a panel is assembled to choose the person who will travel in it. Of course Ellie is a choice, however so is her ex-boss Drumlin the main one who did not believe in her research and did everything in his power to shut down her research, now he wants to go…devil please. Now one of the panel members is Palmer and he specifically asks Ellie does she believe in God, and presses her to answer the question, which forces Ellie to admit that she is an Atheist. Then Palmer along with the panel agree that they cannot in good conscience send an Atheist as a representative of humanity, since most of the world is religious in some form or another. So yes you’ve guessed it…Drumlin is chosen to go.

This next scene will show that this is not our plan this is ALLAHS plan and it is not up to us to change it, and when we do try to change it, things take place to put things back in accord with the plan. Now these can sometimes seem to be bad things, however there is this thing called Karma, this karma could be a result of some wrong you’ve done in this life or maybe in your past life. It’s always so easy for us to blame GOD for everything, when we really need to realize and truly understand that we are responsible for our own actions, our own deeds whether they are righteous or wicked.

So like I said Drumlin is selected to travel, and just as he and  the workers are making sure all is right with the vessel, a radical white haired preacher man has snuck on board and has strapped on a suicide bomb. They discover him too late and he blows up the vessel and kills everyone including himself and Drumlin…looks like no one is going anywhere.

Okay it’s over, end of story. Just joking hahaha, of course that is not the end. Okay now at this point The rich Mr Hadden that funded Ellie’s research comes back into the picture and explains that he has personally funded the building of another device. He invites her to pilot it, which she eagerly accepts. The alien transportation device is a large sphere which a single passenger stands inside and is dropped through the center of the machine, landing in water at the bottom. The engineers insist on adding a safety chair to the design, which Ellie opposes. “Why can’t we just trust the Vegan designers”, she asks. Sounds like her faith is beginning to shift. Anyway she is overruled by the builders and the safety chair is installed. In other words she is asking “why are we adding our own thinking to what they (higher beings) have instructed us to do?

As the machine powers up for the drop, the energies being generated block any radio or camera contact with Ellie. Whatever she experiences will be seen and heard by her only. There will be no witnesses. The vessel is released, but doesn’t fall through to the water below. A wormhole is created by the machine, and she is violently shaken in her chair as the sphere travels down a tunnel of light and emerges in the star system of Vega. A moment later the sphere enters another wormhole and even more violently travels to an unknown star system. Each tunnel trip is more violent then the last, until Ellie decides to have faith in the alien designers and leave her safety chair, which breaks off just as she leaves it. She then discovers that it is only the chair that is being shaken; the sphere as designed is stable and still. This tells us that when we are dealing with higher beings, higher intelligence, we must humble ourselves. When instructions are given we should not add our own thinking to it. Example; When God instructed Abraham to take his son to the mountain top and kill him, knowing that Abraham loved his son very much. Abraham did not question, doubt or add his own thinking, he did as instructed. Of course as we know God was testing Abraham’s fear of HIM, and did not allow Abraham to kill his son.

After leaving the chair Ellie is looking out into the star system Vega and I have to say this scene right here almost made me cry. The humbleness that she felt and expressed was so powerful! Her words as she tried to describe what she saw were…”Some kind of celestial event. No…no words. No words to describe it. Poetry! They should have sent a poet. So beautiful. So beautiful…I had no idea.”

After a couple of peaceful wormhole trips , she is deposited on a world to meet the aliens.  Now this is where it really gets good. The planet is designed to look like the picture she drew as a child of Pensacola Florida! And the alien that greets her has taken the appearance of her father! This shows that the more intelligence one has, the more humble they are. All this done to not scare her. To make her feel comfortable and safe! Wow!

The alien proceeds to explain that they are a part of a huge inter-terrestrial federation. Earthlings are encouraged to continue to develop and evolve, however along peaceful lines (not going to happen with this man in charge). At some point in the far future , we will be contacted again and asked to join the civilizations of the galaxy. She asks for some proof to show to her fellow earthlings, however the only thing given to her are encouraging words

Ellie is brought back to Earth with the appearance that she did not go anywhere, numerous cameras show the sphere falling straight through into the water. There is no evidence that she went anywhere.

Well I think I’ve shared enough about this movie to make you want to see it for yourself, if you haven’t already. And even if you have seen it, watch it again! It seems this movie plays a lot on the battle between spirituality/faith and reason/science. What I like is how Faith won.
